IOWA CITY (AP) -

A Minnesota resident returned to Iowa to face charges that he killed his wife in Iowa City more than 16 years ago is now set to make his next court appearance in the case early next year.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/19f1A9b) that John Bloomfield will be arraigned on a first-degree murder charge on Jan. 3 in Johnson County District Court.

He is accused in the September 1997 death of 57-year-old Frances Bloomfield.

Bloomfield's body was found in a ditch outside of Rockford, Ill. Authorities believe she was strangled at the couple's home and her body dumped in Illinois.
