The Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal is warning residents of a serious risk of fires or electric shocks caused by a specific type of artificial Christmas tree sold at Menards stores.
The stores have ordered a recall of around 1,800 pre-lit Christmas trees due to incidents involving overheating, which could lead to fires or electric shocks.
The recalled trees are in the Enchanted Forest brand and are 7.5 feet tall with 400 champagne-colored diode lights. The model number is 287-1261 and the UPC code is 741895425478. If you believe you may have purchased this tree, you should check for both numbers printed on the box and on a red tag attached to a branch.
The tree was sold only at Menards stores between September and November of this year and cost around $300.
The OFSM advises anyone with the tree to immediately unplug is and return it to Menards for a full refund.
