UPDATE: Waverly special election heads to runoff

Posted: Updated:
WAVERLY (KWWL) - Waverly residents will be heading back to the polls in January to fill a vacant city council seat.

A special election in Waverly on Tuesday did not result in the 50 percent plus one vote for any one candidate that was needed to fill the seat.

Outgoing mayor Bob Brunkhorst received the most votes with 38 percent of the vote, with John Campbell coming in second with 28 percent. The two will face off in a runoff election on January 14.

Write in candidate Edie Waldstein received 20 percent of the vote, and Duane Liddle received 14 percent.

The city council seat opened after the death of councilman Gary Boorom in September.
