Hospital gives a holiday cheer to those affected by cancer

Posted: Updated:

The holiday season is normally a time for family and cheer, but it can be difficult for those affected by cancer.

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids hosted an afternoon of holiday magic for those touched by cancer Sunday.

There were lots of activities from cookie decorating, a football watch party, live music and more.

"We know that being able to come and enjoy a social event with our community, it brings families together," Sandra Ahrendsen, program coordinator.

Hospital staff say they have a connection with those diagnosed with cancer because of their daily interaction.

This is the first year they put on this event, to help bring a little extra cheer this holiday season.
