ELK RUN HEIGHTS (KWWL) -

An organization celebrating its second year collected more than 450 winter coats for children in the Cedar Valley.

Koats 4 Kids gave away a few of those coats Friday at Elk Run Preschool.

Julie Ehlers started the organization last year after reading an article about another area coat giveaway running out of coats.

Ehlers reached out to friends and family and collected 180 coats last year. This year word spread, and Koats 4 Kids collected 485 coats and $8,600.

Ehlers says most of the money consisted of small donations that added up.

"Small things have big impacts, and I think that is the message I want to get out is, it's a good thing," she said. "We are doing a lot of the good things for the kids in our communities."

Koats 4 Kids is still taking donations for this winter.
