Athlete of the Week: Carson Parker

DIKE (KWWL) -

Dike-New Hartford point guard Carson Parker has been lighting up opponents in the early season.

The Wolverine senior has averaged better than 30 points a game -- leading DNH to a 3 and 0 record in the early going --

D-NH Head Coach Greg Moore: "He's one of those guys that you would call a gym rat.  He spends a lot of time here in the mornings.  He's the last guys to leave.

Parker: "I pride myself working hard.  Nothing's going to come easy, so you really have to earn it."

To understand Parker's importance to this team -- you only need to look at last season when he only played the final 8 games due to a football injury.

Without Parker in the line-up -- Dike-New Hartford started the season 10 and 9 -- when he returned, the Wolverines rattled off 7 straight wins before falling at the state tournament in a very close game with number one West Fork.

Moore: "Just having his presence on the floor, I think just makes the other kids more confident.  He's a good passer, he's a good ball handler.  He can shoot it."

and he's done more than just produce on the basketball court -- as the Wolverines starting quarterback -- Parker's led the Wolverines in to the playoffs the past 2 seasons, and was the leading run scorer on the baseball diamond --

But he's staying on the court in college having committed to Brooks McKowen at Upper Iowa -- but first he's got some unfinished business to take care of before switching uniforms.

Parker: "To win the conference is one of our goals, and we think that's do-able.  We have a tough conference, but we think it's do-able if we play tough every night and stick together. Then the ultimate goal is to make it back down to Des Moines and play in Wells Fargo again."
