Recent snowfall giving car body shops no brakes

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Busted bumpers and banged up cars are filling auto body shops in eastern Iowa.

The owner at Chuck Smith Body Shop in Iowa City says it's been all gas and no brakes with business this week due to the recent snowfall.

He says normally his body shop sees about eight estimates per day, but Smith says they had 24 estimates in one day, three times the norm.

"I don't wish accidents on anybody, but they're going to happen and that's just the nature of the beast, and we do end up profiting from it," said Smith.

His workers were fixing banged up bumpers and dented doors and he says the snowfall and slick roads are definitely the blame for an increase in business.

If you plan on getting your car looked at, give them extra time.

"People that are needing to get cars fixed, they're going to find that there's a waiting list now of two to three weeks out," says Smith.

He says while business is good, it's always important to take your time on the roadways, especially with some of the roads still slick.
