Cedar Falls founder of Gary's Girls guilty of sexual abuse
CEDAR FALLS (AP) -
A jury has convicted a 61-year-old Cedar Falls man of sexually abusing a girl who'd signed up for his basketball program.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says (http://bit.ly/18ztTMP ) the jury on Monday said Gary Alexander was guilty of three counts of sexual abuse. He faces up to 45 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Alexander began abusing the girl when she was 11 after she joined his Gary's Girls basketball program. She testified that the abuse continued until she stopped it while she was in high school. She decided to press charges after college.
Alexander testified that he'd never had sex with the girl. The statement contradicted an interview with investigators in which he acknowledged having sex with her when she was young.
He's also accused of sexually abusing another girl.
