CHARLES CITY (AP) -

A Charles City man was shot in the hip while hunting with a group in northeast Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources say 32-year-old Ryan Alton was hunting a few miles southwest of Charles City on Sunday as part of a group of five hunters.

The group was pushing deer from a grove of trees when a hunter fired a shot and hit Alton in the left hip.

The shooter told investigators he didn't expect Alton to be in the spot and that he couldn't see him when he fired the shot.

Alton was treated at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
