No major changes to Cedar Falls animal control ordinance

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The city of Cedar Falls will make no major changes to its animal control ordinance.

A committee considered if specific breeds, like pit bulls, needed to be included in the rules.

But police say the current animal control ordinance dealing with loose animals has been working as it is.  Police Chief Jeff Olson reviewed the call statistics for 2012 and 2013 - and also reviewed in the process in which a dog was handled.

While no changes will be made to the ordinance itself, fines will go up for offending owners. The fine had ranged from $65 to $625.  Cedar Falls will now make the violation a municipal infraction, making the fine $500 for the first offense, $750 for the second offense and $900 for the third offense.
