WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Police say a standoff that started Saturday night in Waterloo ended in a suicide.

It began around 10 p.m. Saturday when police were called to a home in the 400 block of Conger St. for a man making suicidal threats.

Part of the street was blocked while law enforcement officers were on the scene.

Police say around 2:30 a.m., the tactical unit used tear gas to try to get the man out of the house.

When they entered the home, they discovered the man had killed himself.
