Energy drink manufacturers have long argued the drinks are just as safe as a cup of coffee but that may not be the case.

“A lot of people don’t know how to respond to those chemicals. It can be the same as coffee, but they're not labeled well and they're not regulated by the FDA," said Candy Steele with Covenant Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Steele says it's best to avoid getting your energy from a can. She recommends getting back to the basics and eat a diet rich in whole foods and lean proteins.
