New Pioneer Co-op could expand again

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An eastern Iowa food co-op plans to expand, yet again.

The New Pioneer Co-op in Iowa City plans to relocate in Downtown Iowa City or open a second location in Iowa City.

The co-op already has a location in Coralville, and the one in Cedar Rapids is set to open in 2015.

"We are a downtown based business and we're absolutely committed to the downtown, so we're seeking to grow so we can better serve our members in the community," say's Matt Hartz.

The proposed project would provide 10,000 square feet of retail space and potential residential space in their five or six story building.

The plan still needs to be approved by the Iowa City City Council and an the investment from a developer.
