Swenka appeals sentence for involuntary manslaughter

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

A man sentenced to two years in prison for involuntary manslaughter filed an appeal.

Zachary Swenka entered an Alford plea in October for involuntary manslaughter in the 2011 death of 14-year-old Mackenzie Lown.

By entering an Alford plea, Swenka did not admit guilt, but acknowledged that prosecutors can likely prove the charge.

Swenka's sentence will be reconsidered on December 16 at 2:30 p.m. in Johnson County. Swenka is out on bail while he awaits the ruling.
