Cold stops leaf collection in Cedar Rapids

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The City of Cedar Rapids says they will end their leaf collection program a day early due to predicted cold temperatures.

Megan Murphy, utilities communications coordinator, said crews will work to reach all customers by the end of the day on Thursday.

While crews generally pick up leaves on a customer's normal garbage collection day, crews will be collecting routes before the normal collection day to help meet the deadline.

If you still have leaves in your yard after Thursday, you can do one of the following:

  • Fill your YARDY cart. Yard Waste collection happens all year long.
  • Use biodegradable leaf bags from now until Friday. The brown leaf bags are collected during the originally scheduled Leaf Vacuum Collection Program period.

The Leaf Vacuum Collection Program will resume in April 2014.
