What started as an ordinary retirement for an eastern Iowa woman, transformed into a masterpiece.

Lori Strasburger has been face painting for about five years and love using faces as her canvas.
She travels across the most of eastern Iowa adding a little extra joy to the faces of many.

"I do it for the absolute total joy of bringing joy," says Strasburger. "Face painting is very ancient art going back to the Egyptians actually, they used to paint their faces."

Strasburger says when she retired a few years ago she had a long list of things she wanted to get done, but it took her only a few weeks to complete the tasks.

"So I had a conversation with my children and they said, 'Well mom whatever you do it has to be fun,'" Strasburger says.

She's glad to bring the fun of full-face face painting to the area with her business, Funny Face Designs by Lori  and she's the official Hawkeye face painter.

Strasburger and her staff of seven attends most Hawkeye games and they're not afraid to set up shop anywhere, just to add  a little more excitement.

"This is not the first time she's set up shop here," says Strasburger's brother, Chip Kesinger.  "It happens quite a bit on various family occasion and holidays. It's a lot of fun for the kids to come over and get fixed up into whatever face paint she's go."

"I don't paint for money or recognition. I just love the joy of going out and painting children," she says. "The look that i get from them when i hold the mirror up, that is absolutely the most giant pay off of all. I will face paint as long as my body's able to pick up a ssuitcasefull of paint and go do it, bbecauseit just gives me so much joy."

Her brother says the joy that she brings to the kids and the people that get their faces painted, is a lot of fun.

"It's just an unusual business and it's just a lot of fun for her and we've been having a lot of fun watching her," said Kesinger.
