Womenade aims to help those struggling in Clayton County

Posted: Updated:

A group of women in Clayton County have started a grassroots organization called Womenade to help those facing a financial crisis.

Womenade was formed in Clayton County in July of this year. The organization borrowed the name Womenade from a similar national organization of the same name.

Organizers of Womenade say so far they have helped 10 families or individuals in the Clayton County area.

"I think that everybody at times has had hard times, and you have to understand that there (are) just situations where people need a helping hand," said Becky Hefel, a member of Womenade in Clayton County.

Hefel says Womenade is not just limited to women. She says anyone is able to join, donate and apply for help. Individuals and families can apply for a donation through a third party such as a school or social service agency.

Organizers with Womenade in Clayton County say the organization meets three times a year. During those meetings, a potluck dinner is served and members meet about to talk about the program, offer suggestions about the program and write checks to help assist the fund.
