Shoppers camp out for Thanksgiving sales

Brown Thursday, Gray Thursday -- whatever you call it, Black Friday wants a piece of Thanksgiving Day.

Thursday afternoon, while most people are sitting on the couch digesting, some are putting on their game face for some serious shopping. But it's a select few that come out early. At Crossroads Plaza in Waterloo, the parking lots were pretty empty, save for a solitary tent pitched in front of Best Buy. Inside: a cluster of high school students waiting for the store to open at six.

For these guys, waiting in line is serious business. They were some of the first people there, and they're not rookies.

"Last year we were here and it was a really cold night," said 17-year-old Edvin Kovacebic. "We thought the tent could be a good thing ... It's all about strategy."

So this year, they came prepared.

"We have a blanket, so we don't sit on the cold ground," Kovacebic said. "Everyone has like their own little station, everyone is in their own corner."

The group was waiting for a big sale on laptops, but said it's about more than just the sales.

"We're just having bonding time," said one of the boys in the tent.

But in the end, it's also about the stuff.

"I mean every year is an exciting year to get stuff for cheap," Kovacebic said. "It's a great time."
