Salvation Army offers Thanksgiving to all

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -
A free feast put people in the spirit of Thanksgiving at the Waterloo Salvation Army.

Hundreds of community members and volunteers filled the dining hall. A traditional Thanksgiving meal, consisting of donated food, was served.

The meal program is designed to help three types of people: those who need the food for survival, those on a tight budget, and those who would otherwise spend the holiday alone.

Community meals are an ordinary occurrence at the Waterloo Salvation Army. Monday through Friday, 250 to 300 people are fed throughout the year.

The Salvation Army also hopes to raise $725,000 this holiday season. Major Jose Tamayo says they are a little behind pace, but he is confident that more will begin donating and volunteering.
