Waterloo family starts new Thanksgiving Day tradition

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - People on Barton Avenue in Waterloo witnessed quite a sight Thursday morning, a hunter and turkeys running down the street.

But it wasn't someone looking for their Thanksgiving Day dinner, it was the Elfritz family starting their new tradition.

"A little family 5k turkey trot," said Steve Elfritz, also known as "Super Turkey". "One of the girls decided we should do something before the big Thanksgiving family meal, and we all fell for it."

The family's goal was to run 3.2 miles Thursday morning before their family meal.

While Steve wasn't sure at first if they were going to make it annual tradition, he did say that anyone is welcome to come out and join them next year.
