Jesup superintendent recommends firing wrestling coach

Posted: Updated:

A special meeting in Jesup this week will decide the future of the high school wrestling coach.

The meeting will happen Friday morning. On the agenda is a recommendation from the superintendent to immediately terminate a teacher/coach contract with the school board.

Here is part of the meeting notice:

1. Call Meeting to Order and Record Members Present and Absent

2. Superintendent filing recommendation to immediately terminate teacher/coach contract with the school board. (B. Meyers) per Iowa Code 296.27

3. Resignations/Contracts

4. Adjournment

Brent Meyers is the head wrestling coach at Jesup.

Superintendent Nathan Marting says Meyers is currently suspended, but since this is a personnel issue, can not give us more information about what's behind the recommendation.

Marting says no action will be taken at Friday's meeting.
Any action will take place at a later closed session meeting.  A date for that meeting has not been determined.
