Regina Wins 1A, Waukon falls in 2A

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Iowa City Regina came in as an overwhelming favorite going for a state record 56th straight win --

and they'd jump on top of St Edmond right away -- Riley Dixon from 33 yards out -- cruises in to the endzone -- The Regals would lead 7, nothing after the first --

and they took it over in the second -- Jake Brinkman scores from the 4 -- Regina would eventually go up 21, nothing --

and they'd even get a bit tricky -- looks like a reverse -- instead it's a flea flicker back to quarterback Drew Cook -- as he's got Bryan Amelon all alone way down the field -- 61 yards -- 28, nothing at the half --

and on their opening drive on the second half -- Brinkman would find the endzone again -- this time breaking free down the sideline covering 68 yards --

this one wasn't even close -- Regina wins their 4th straight in a blowout 35-0.

In class 2A -- Waukon would go after their first ever against Carroll Kuemper --

but they'd fall behind early as the Knights Josh Irlbeck takes the pass 11 yards for a score -- 7, nothing Kuemper after the first --

but Waukon would come back -- on 4th and 19 -- Parker Hesse connects with Travis Herman for a 25 yard score -- big play tied it at 7 apiece -

but just before half -- Kuemper's Cole Nealy would throw a beautiful strike to Ben Hicks -- Hicks would go hard in to the door -- but be O-K as the Knights led 14, 7 at the break --

Second half -- Waukon coming back strong -- game tied at 21 as Hesse would get in from 4 -- Waukon with the late lead --

But it wouldn't last -- Nealy goes deep to Adam Drees -- 58 yards on the touchdown reception -- that would tie it at 28 apiece -- and it would come down to the last seconds --

Kuemper's Adam Schleisman going for the game winner from 39 yards -- and it's off the crossbar and in -- one inch shorter -- and we would've kept going -- instead Waukon drops a heartbreaker 31 - 28.
