WATERLOO (KWWL) - On the heels of Linn County K-9 deputies getting bulletproof vests, a few Waterloo officers also got something to make their lives a little less rough.

Robby, Spike and Mitch -- three of Waterloo's finest -- were recently outfitted with new bullet- and stab-protective vests thanks to Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a Massachusetts-based nonprofit.

The ballistic vests will protect the K9s from bullet and stab wounds as well as blunt-force trauma.

The vests normally run around $950.

Vested Interest, based in East Taunton, Mass., has provided more than 435 law enforcement dogs with protective vests in 35 states since 2009 through private and corporate sponsorships.

Earlier this week, two K9 officers with the Linn County Sheriff's Office also received vests.
