DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The images of central Illinois following Sunday's tornadoes have hit especially close to home for one eastern Iowa business owner.

Paul Meissner owns Meissner Roofing in Dubuque. He says he lived in Washington, Ill., for a couple of years in the early 1980s.

"I have a lot of great memories down there," he said. "I got my driver's license in Washington, I got my first speeding ticket in Washington, I got into my first accident in Washington, and my first job in Washington. So I have a lot of good memories down there."

Meissner plans on heading to Washington on Friday evening to volunteer.

Since he is not a licensed roofing contractor in Illinois, he is not sure if he'll be able to put his skills to work. But he says, he'll be happy just pouring coffee.

Meissner is also working with the Bethany Community Church to collect donations for those that lost so much in the disaster.

He says he plans on spending the weekend there, but he may be staying longer.
