Two Linn County K-9 deputies have received bullet- and stab-protective vests thanks to a nonprofit organization out of Massachusetts.

Sheriff Brian Gardner says the vests for Gompie and Gucci were provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. based in East Taunton, Mass.

The made-to-order vests, which cost $950 each, will help protect the dogs from stab wounds as well as blunt-force trauma.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided more than 435 protective vests since their inception in August of 2009 thanks to private and corporate donations.

The vests are made by Armor Express based in Central Lakes, Mich.
