Study: Coffee may open blood vessels

A new study shows that morning cup of coffee may do more than just open your eyes, it might open your blood vessels as well, according to NBC News.

A Japanese study of 27 healthy adults found one cup of caffeinated coffee increased blood flow in the finger, which is an accurate gauge of blood circulation.

In fact, the study showed that drinking just five ounces of coffee increased blood flow by up to 30 percent, compared to drinking the same amount of decaf coffee.

Researchers say the caffeine may help open up blood vessels and reduce inflammation, but the impact this could have on heart health has not yet been determined.
