GILBERTVILLE (KWWL) -

Mark Thome will be the next mayor of Gilbertville after a random draw held Thursday morning.

The Black Hawk County Auditor's Office says after a re-count Tuesday, Thome and write-in challenger Jeff Balvanz were found to have 109 votes each. When the election was canvassed on November 12 by the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors, Thome had 109 votes while Balvanz had 102 votes.

Iowa law requires a tied vote to be resolved by drawing lots. Both Thomes' and Balvanz's names were printed on separate pieces of paper uniform in size and material, and placed in a hat for the drawing.
