Waterloo students evacuated after gas leak

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Students at Lou Henry Elementary School and Hoover Middle School in Waterloo left their classrooms early Monday afternoon after a gas leak in Hoover Middle School.

Waterloo Schools spokesperson Tara Thomas says the gas leak was due to construction at the school and students were evacuated immediately.

Students at Hoover Middle School were sent home since it was close to the end of their normal day.

Students at Lou Henry were taken to Central Christian Church in Waterloo as a precaution before they were dismissed.

Thomas says police and fire crews are working to fix the problem.

All after-school activities have been canceled.

No injuries were reported and the leak is currently being repaired.
