Cedar Rapids named a "Top 10 Best Place to Retire"

A national website has named Cedar Rapids one of the best 10 places to retire in the country.

Livability.com, a website that examines issues related to livability, such as walk ability, transportation, urban planning and sustainability, ranked Cedar Rapids as the ninth best place to retire in America.

In compiling their list, editors used data collected to determine the Top 100 Best Places to Live, in which Cedar Rapids was 30th. They also identified cities with excellent healthcare, lots of art and entertainment venues, great parks and a relatively low cost of living.

“If the only factor in your retirement planning is playing golf on a daily basis, your choices are pretty clear,” Matt Carmichael, Livability.com Editor, said in a written statement. “But for everyone else, we wanted to put together a list of great cities that have more to offer than green grass and easy tee times. Not everyone moves when they retire, but for those who do, here are 10 cities and towns to consider.”

They say Cedar Rapids was chosen because older adults are exposed to new experiences, kept active, engaged, healthy and inspired.
