CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Down... Set... Hike! The state high school football semi finals hit the UNI Dome field this weekend in Cedar Falls.

The first game of the semi finals begins 9 a.m. Thursday at the Dome.

24 teams from across Iowa will play a total of twelve games over the weekend. Twelve teams will then return the Dome next weekend for the finals. UNI Athletic Director said the high school playoffs are the biggest revenue generator for the Athletic Department.

"In the next two weeks... More people will be in the Dome than for every home game put together for this year's UNI football season," said Athletic Director Troy Dannen.

The Cedar Falls community also gets an economic boost. The Cedar Falls Tourism Bureau anticipates about $3.5 million will be pumped into the local economy from guests visiting for both the semi finals and finals.

Restaurants and hotels in Cedar Falls are gearing up for the crowd. J's Homestyle Cooking said if it's anything like last year, it will be quite the crowd.

"We'll have a down time while the games are playing but as soon as they're out - we're full," said Kitchen Manager Penny Conway.

The Country Inn and Suites said it has an entire team booked for semi finals weekend.

"Probably about 60 percent of our hotel rooms at the moment are coming in for the state football playoffs, with the various teams coming in and all the supporters from various places," said Nathan Link, Regional Sales Manager.

The Cedar Falls Tourism Bureau estimates about 85,000 tickets will be sold between both the semi final and final games.
