Marion officially opens new, $10M police station

Marion police officers officially have a new office.

On Wednesday, city officials cut the ribbon at the city's new police department.

The building cost more than $10 million.

Chief Harry Daugherty says Marion's population and police force have doubled since the old station was built. He says a bigger police station is better for officers and residents.

"If we do our job better that means that what we do for them is going to be much better," said Daugherty. "It's going to be easier for us to talk to them, to solve crime, to do what we need to do."

The new building was built with the idea that it can hold more officers as the city and police force grow.

Officers will start working out of the new police department on Friday.
