Waterloo Mayor Buck Clark wins election; gains vote in recount

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The recount in the election for Waterloo Mayor is over, according to Black Hawk County election manager Kyle Jensen.

Jensen said incumbent Mayor Buck Clark gained one vote in the recount, increasing his margin of victory from 88 votes to 89.

On election night, KWWL reported his margin of victory to be 87 votes. Prior to the recount, Clark won an additional late ballot, bringing his total to 88.

Initial totals showed that Clark won with 4601 votes over challenger Steve Schmitt's 4513.

The recount was completed Wednesday morning. Schmitt initially requested it because the race was won by less than a 1 percent margin.

Schmitt also requested a recount when he ran against Clark in 2009. In that case, Clark gained five votes.
