2 of 3 people accused of animal torture get charges dismissed

Posted: Updated:

Two of the three people accused of torturing a dog and leaving it to die have had charges dismissed.

A.J. Sellers, Kelsey Block and Ty Hickman faced animal torture and animal neglect charges after a dog, nicknamed “Caleb” by animal rights activists, was found dead in a crate and covered in its own feces last winter.

According to court documents, Hickman claims he left the dog with Sellers and Block in January until they could find the dog a new home.

Sellers was in court Monday and received the same treatment as Block.

Sellers and Block both entered guilty pleas. In both cases, the animal torture charge was dismissed by court, and the judge deferred the sentence for the animal neglect charge.

Sellers and Block were fined a $315 civil penalty and were sentenced to 12 months' probation.

Hickman will go on trial Jan. 13.
