State Volleyball: Waverly-SR, West Delaware & Hempstead Fall on Day One

The opening round of the State Volleyball tournament saw three area schools lose.

 

Dubuque Hempstead was swept by Bettendorf in the quarterfinal round in Class 5A. While in Class 4A, Waverly-Shell Rock jumped to a 2 sets to none lead over arch rival Charles City only to see the Comets come storming back to win 3 sets to 2 and advance to the semifinal round. Also in Class 4A, West Delaware battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set with Davenport Assumption.  But the Hawks would lose the fifth set 15-8 and the match 3-2.
