ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -

Temperatures are warming across the Midwest after Arctic chills gave cities in South Dakota and Iowa the distinction as the coldest places in the nation Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service says Aberdeen in northeast South Dakota and Spencer in northwest Iowa both hit minus 1 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ryan Vipond with the weather service in Aberdeen tells South Dakota Public Radio that a cloudless night, a huge high pressure system and dry atmosphere combined to send temperatures plunging.
