CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
Cell phone towers on schools---it's already happening in Cedar Rapids and could soon expand.
The school district is considering allowing Verizon to put a cell phone tower on Johnson Elementary School. Some parents have expressed concerns that it would pose a threat to students' health which the district says isn't true. Allowing the tower would bring in nearly $26,000 each year for the district.
"From a purely financial response, it would benefit the district by providing additional resources, financial resources," said Steve Graham, Executive Director of Business Services.
Parents can attend an informational meeting at the school Tuesday night. It will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in the music room.
There's already cell phone towers on Wilson and Roosevelt Middle Schools and at Kingston Stadium.
