A Monday morning fire at an Iowa City apartment building caused more than $40,000 in damage.
Firefighters were called to 328 North Dubuque St. just after midnight Monday for a report of a fire.
When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the roof of the two-and-a-half story building, according to Battalion Chief Brian Platz. The residents of the six apartments were already out of the building.
Platz says the fire started near a ceiling-mounted light fixture on the second floor and then extended into the attic.
Crews had the fire under control within 15 minutes and extinguished within 45 minutes.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
