Veterans receive long-overdue medals at Bridges from Braley

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley and Waterloo city officials recognized local veterans for their service Monday morning.

Frank Lape, Korean War veteran; Robert Manahl, WWII veteran; and Ralph Adams, WWII veteran, were all recognized at the ceremony at Bridges Senior Living Community in Waterloo.

Lape and Manahl received their much-anticipated medals, while Adams' medals are still on the way.

Lape said he was at a loss for words upon receiving his awards.

"Just overwhelmed," he said. "It's very hard to put into words what this all represents."

Braley said his office works to help veterans who have lost medals, never received them or who have had them destroyed due to natural disasters.

"I'm proud that we can finally properly honor these men for their service," said Braley. "Like all veterans, we are grateful for their service and sacrifice during World War II and the Korean War."
