EVANSDALE (KWWL) -

Poyner Elementary fifth graders Emma Larsen, Hannah Cary, Linkin Sarauer, and Willow Ross are hard at work making and selling rubber band jewelry.

"We're selling rubber band bracelets to raise money for Angels' Park, and we're going to plant flowers there," said Hannah Cary.

All four girls were classmates and friends with Elizabeth Collins. Last year, the girls helped out with a Penny Power Project to raise money for these benches in front of the school in memory of Elizabeth and her cousin Lyric Cook.

"I think it's part of the healing process because I've seen them become closer to each other, care for each other more, and do things together," said teacher Michelle Wolfensperger.

This year, the girls decided to sell jewelry to raise money to plant pink and purple flowers at Angels' Park, which is a memorial at Meyers Lake in Evansdale in honor of Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook.

"We kinda blurted ideas and we agreed on this one," said Linkin Sarauer.

The 10 year olds sold the jewelry at parent-teacher conferences and got great feedback.

"They said it was really cool and liked it because Elizabeth was our friend," said Emma Larsen.

The items range in price from 50 cents to $5. The original goal was $100, but the girls now hope to raise $500.

"They care about Elizabeth's family and everybody in the community, and they want to share the care they have for those girls with everyone," said Michelle Wolfensperger.

Emma, Hanna, Linkin and Willow said they plan to do something every year to remember Elizabeth and Lyric.
