House set ablaze for firefighter training in Robins

Firefighters in Robins got some on-the-job training that could have some real-world consequences.

The Robins Fire Department burned a home as part of a training exercise.

New firefighters could get some real life experience and experienced firefighters could brush up on their skills.

The all-volunteer department doesn't see many fires during the year, but they want to make sure they're ready when they're called.

"This gives us the opportunity to train and be prepared for when it will happen, and we have a couple new members on the department who have had no live fire training," said assistant fire chief Brad Ransford.

He added that it's an opportunity and first introduction for new firefighters into having to battle a real fire

The two homes burned Saturday were donated to the fire department by their owner.
