Attorneys warn of Halloween lawsuits

WAVERLY (KWWL) -

While Halloween is meant to be a fun holiday, attorneys warn it could be an opportunity for homeowners to enter a legal battle.

"If you consider that you're having kind of a giant open house, you're inviting all these little guests, these little trick-or-treaters, onto your property, and it's not surprising that occasionally one of them might sustain an injury while they're on your property," said Karen Thalacker.

Thalacker is an attorney and judicial magistrate for Bremer County as well as a pre-law advisor at Wartburg College.

She said it's important to take extra steps to make sure kids are safe.

According to Thalacker, if a child gets hurt, a homeowner's insurance company will want to know what precautions were taken by the homeowner to keep kids safe.

More legal advice is available on Thalacker's blog: Legal Angle.
