A University of Northern Iowa professor says Halloween costumes that are too revealing can be damaging for little girls.

Annette Lynch runs the Center for Violence Prevention at UNI, and just wrote a book called "Porn Chic."

She said costumes for women, and even young girls, are overly sexualized compared to mens' costumes. She said girls' costumes should demonstrate more independent power, like those for boys do.

"We really need to give girls the same kind of options we give boys to dress up in costumes, (like those) that demonstrate a fantasy about being a superhero," Lynch said.

Lynch recommends parents help their kid create their own unique costumes.
