Second trial of Seth Techel begins in Mt. Pleasant
MT. PLEASANT (AP) -
The second trial of a former jail guard charged with first-degree murder in the killing of his pregnant wife is starting in Mount Pleasant.
The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1eZHAWK ) jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of Seth Techel of Agency. He's charged with first-degree murder and non-consensual termination of a human pregnancy.
The first trial ended in a mistrial in March. The second trial was moved from Ottumwa to Mount Pleasant because of publicity surrounding the first trial.
Prosecutors have alleged Techel shot his wife to death because he wanted to pursue a relationship with another woman. The defense argued a neighbor might have killed her.
Both Techels worked in law enforcement. She was a reserve Wapello County deputy. He worked as a jailer.
