Voters take a look at Hiawatha library levy vote

Sunday, the Hiawatha library held an open house at its building on West Willman Street. It was to let voters know about the levy vote November 5. Library officials say the library needs to expand to meet demand.

Library officials say if voters pass the levy, it would mean an extra $80,000 a year to the library, which would pay for two part-time workers and a building addition.

It would mean someone with a $100,000 house would pay $27 a year.

"We're having this open house just as kind of a way for people to come in a really see what our library is about, and kind of what our need are and why we are pursuing this as an option," Molly Rach, Adult Programming Coordinator.

Rach says last year about 11,000 children and teens attended programs at the Hiawatha public library.
