Prairie stops Waterloo West in overtime, 30-29

Waterloo West went for it all in overtime, but Cedar Rapids Prairie stopped Wahawk quarterback, Alex Young, on a two-point conversion, and Prairie beat West 30-29 at Memorial Stadium.

West led, 17-3, at half, after two Lance Dunn touchdowns and a Nevzad Osmancecvic field goal.

Prairie got its offense going in the second half, scoring twice to tie the game at 17.

Lance Dunn scored again on a 47 yard pass from Alex Young, but, Prairie countered with a Keagan Pinter 20-yard touchdown run to tied the game at 23.

In the overtime, Trey Beckman hit Kentrel Smith for the Prairie touchdown, and Sam Drysdale kicked the all-important point after. Prairie led, 30-23.

Alex Young scored for West from the one-yard in the overtime, but Young couldn't handle a low snap on the point after and Prairie tackled Young to end the game.

The loss dropped West to 4-5 on the season and sends them on the road for a first round playoff game next Wednesday night at undefeated Pleasant Valley in the Quad-Cities.

Prairie improves its record to 5-4 and will face Cedar Rapids Kennedy its first round playoff match up in Class 4A.
