With win over N.-Kensett, Don Bosco takes district title

Posted: Updated:

The unbeaten Don Bosco Dons move into the state playoffs with the outright District Championship.

In order to do so they would face a very strong Northwood-Kensett Viking team who finished second in the district.

The Dons get the ball first to start the game and three plays later, quarterback Jake Hogan scrambles, almost gets sacked, and connects for a 37-yard pass with number 37 Mitchell Corkery for a touchdown.

Hogan would then take the ball around the left side for a successful 2-point conversion. The Dons lead the Northwood-Kensett Vikings 8-0.

Northwood-Kensett would waste little time with their opening possession. The fifth play of the drive on a fourth and three -- quarterback Zachary Costello connects with number 41 Brandon Brockman for an 8-yard run and touchdown.

Costello would then find a hole off the left side and go untouched to tie the game 8-all.

After a Viking punt, the Dons get the ball back on the Vikes 22-yard line. Two plays later it's Corkery with a sweep around the left side for a 15-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good and Don Bosco leads 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Start of the second and the Vikings control the ball for 11 plays and top it off with number 21 Joshua Einertson scoring around the right side from 26 yards out. The 2-point conversion was good and the Vikes lead for the first time 16-14.

Hogan would call his number early and often during the Dons next offensive possession. This hard-fought run would get the ball to the Vikings' 21-yard line.

Three plays later it is Hogan scrambling and, at the last second, flinging the ball right into the hands of number 15 Zach Hickson for an 8-yard touchdown grab. The extra point was no good and the Dons were back on top 20 to 16 in the 2nd quarter -- and that score would remain at halftime.

Jake Hogan finishes the game with four touchdowns on the ground, three through the air and one kick-off for a touchdown.

The Dons win a hard fought one tonight. Final score: 64-50 Dons.
