COUNCIL BLUFFS (KWWL) -

Skeletal remains found in a Council Bluffs drainage ditch on Oct. 11 are that of an Omaha man who ran from police nearly two years ago, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

The Omaha Police Department’s Missing Person’s Unit, with the assistance of the Council Bluffs Police Department, was investigating cold cases on Oct. 11 when they found skeletal remains in a drainage ditch on the south side of the I-480 bridge in Council Bluffs.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office, using dental records, determined the remains were 21-year-old Chance Fletcher of Omaha.

DCI says Fletcher was last seen alive on Dec. 15, 2011 when a Carter Lake officer attempted to pull him over while driving a stolen vehicle. The chase ended in Council Bluffs, near the I-480 bridge, after Fletcher wrecked the car and ran. A search for Fletcher that evening ended with no success.
