State group approves Waverly amphitheater grant

Posted: Updated:

A state group has approved a $78,000 grant to partially fund an amphitheater in a Waverly park.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports ( ) Vision Iowa's Enhancement Community Attraction and Tourism program has awarded the grant for the amphitheater in the northeast Iowa city's Kohlmann Park.

Plans call for an 18-foot by 90-foot amphitheater for use during the summer.

The award is contingent on organizers reaching a $300,000 fundraising goal.

Ann Cashman, who helped design the facility, says organizers are within $50,000 of that goal.

Cashman says the state grant will let organizers start accepting bids and it's possible the project could be completed by spring 2014.
