Eastern Iowa road crews ready for any snowfall

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

When the word "snow" is in the forecast it brings mixed emotions.

"I'm not ready for the snow at all. I know it's not quite 30 to 40 degrees, but I'm still cold and I'm all bundled up. I know that once it gets in the middle of January we would appreciate this temperature right now, but I am not ready for the snow. No," said Jennifer Thompson.

"Yes and no. Yes to have fun with my grand kids. No I got to get out and go work in it," said Angel Stigler.

Over at the Waterloo Streets Department Monday was spent getting blades on the road graters.

"We're pretty much ready. We have 24 trucks ready and five graters. Our employees are ready to roll. Mixing a lot of salt/sand and we're ready to go," said Tony Pauley, streets department supervisor.

Pauley says he monitors the weather very closely and his crew is on call 24-7, ready to go if needed.

The Department of Transportation in Black Hawk County says they will have six trucks ready to go at a moments notice equipped to brine the roads.

Officials say they hope drivers watch out for bridges and overpasses especially.

The DOT says it's their policy to be ready for winter by October 15.
