WAVERLY (AP) -

The high school where Spc. Donald "Donny" Nichols graduated will mark his service to his country with a memorial.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says (http://bit.ly/1dai7f9 ) the memorial at Waverly-Shell Rock High School will be dedicated on Nov. 11.

Nichols was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on April 13, 2011, while serving with the Iowa National Guard. He body is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls.

High school associate principal Jeremy Langner says government teachers are working with students to plan the assembly.

Langner says Nichols' marker will be placed near the memorial to Karen Kincaid-Batacan, a Waverly-Shell Rock graduate who was killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. She was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77, which was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon.
